NEW PETRIE INTERSECTION NOW COMPLETE

Petrie is now home to a new and improved intersection after the Palaszczuk Government’s $30 million upgrade saw the old roundabout demolished and replaced by a signalised T-intersection.

State Member for Kurwongbah Shane King said motorists had been really fed up with the traffic bottlenecks caused by the roundabout during peak travel times.

“The upgrade has widened the intersection, creating extra space for additional lanes and the new signals prioritise heavy traffic, easing congestion by clearing the intersection more quickly during peak periods.

"We've improved safety by regulating right-turns at the intersection with green arrows, and we’ve installed pedestrian crossings and bike lanes.

“I’ve been through the intersection on a number of occasions since it’s completion and it’s like a whole new world.

“I’ve also had local commuters telling me their journeys to and from work are now significantly shorter, which is really great news.

Mr King thanked local businesses and commuters for their patience during construction and said the project supported an average of 60 direct jobs.
